Fed-up of dating shallow beauties, now seeking confident, skilled professional, with nice family and friends to set up home with. Oh and must have friendly eyes and good teeth…

WHAT WOMEN REALLY WANT (oh and men too…)

FORGET the WAGS, footballers and performers of this world because when it comes to choosing a life partner Brits actually want the girl or boy next door, according to a new relationship study out today.

The study, commissioned by oral-hygiene specialists, BlanX®, surveyed* 2,061 men and women to discover what personal and physical traits people look for in a life partner and how their ideals change from their dating years.

Interestingly the results revealed that while money and glamour might appeal when you’re young and carefree, when you’re thinking about settling down all superficiality goes out the window in favour of practicalities.

When asked which profession their ideal partner would be, a third of men opted for a nurse, which may be a reflection of their need to be mothered and cared for. And when it came to women, they want a partner who’s good with his hands and DIY, as a massive 35% cited a skilled tradesman (builder, plumber, electrician or painter) as their ideal choice.

Over a third of men and women rated confidence highest on their wish for long-term partners. And having nice in-laws (25%) and compatible friends (11%) both came above their partner being a home-owner (9%). Surprisingly, Brits would rather their partner owned a pet (3%) over a car (2%)!

And in terms of physical traits, a nice, white smile (29%) and friendly eyes (28%) came out on top, beating a good figure/build (18%) to the top two spots.

When it comes to an ideal age, it’s not just men (57%) that want a younger partner. A massive 58% of women revealed that seeing a new trend for toyboys – demonstrated by celebrities including Demi Moore and Madonna – has left them wanting a younger husband too!

Regionally the findings differed with people living in Bristol (43%) considering confidence to be more important in a partner than people living anywhere else in the UK. However, for those living in Edinburgh and Belfast, having a nice family came top of their list, with 30% choosing it above all the other physical characteristics.

Charlotte Smith for BlanX®, comments; “The survey revealed some surprising but comforting findings in a world where money and fame has never been more aspirational.

“It just goes to show that when you’re thinking of settling down, we’re much more aware of what’s really important, but it appears that image, in particular good teeth, will ultimately always play a part in attracting a partner.”

Gordon Brown voted celebrity with the fakest smile

Britain’s Got Talent judges all make the top ten
A third of us confess to faking a smile every day
Londeners are biggest fake smilers, compared to genuine Scots

DESPITE Gordon Brown putting on a brave face this week it would seem the nation has seen through his sincerity as they vote him the celebrity with the fakest smile, according to a new poll out today.

The survey* of 1000 men and women by non-abrasive teeth whitening specialists BlanX®, to celebrate National Smile Month (May 17 – June 14), reveals that as the Prime Minister faces possibly his toughest time in term, one in four Brits just won’t be fooled by his cool, collected exterior.

And he’s not the only MP whose smile has come into question. Ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair’s forced front also made the top five, with 14% of the vote.

Although Victoria Beckham may have looked pretty pleased with herself at the unveiling of the new ads for Armani underwear, she too has been slated for her smirk, taking the second spot in the poll with 17%.

And while Katie Price might be putting on a brave face in light of her recent split with Peter Andre, the nation deemed her smile insincere too as she took fourth place in the poll with 11% of the vote.

Other celebrity smiles that made the top ten include all three of Britain’s Got Talent judges, Simon Cowell (8%), Amanda Holden (6%) and Piers Morgan (3%).

But it’s not just celebrities and MP’s that know how to fake a smile. Brits are also guilty of it as a third of us confess to faking a smile every day, with one in five admitting to doing it on average, six times a day.

And it seems that Londoners are the worst culprits for faking a smile compared to the genuine Scots who rarely feel the need to put on a false front.

Celebrity dentist and spokesperson for BlanX®, Dr Lance Knight says: “The fake but genuine looking smile is very important on a professional and social level – according to a recent survey**, 12% of bosses are more likely to give promotions to those who smile a lot, 72% of people think that those who smile frequently are confident and successful and 86% of people are more likely to talk to strangers if they are smiling. So it’s no wonder we’re all guilty of faking it every so often.

“However, discoloured or stained teeth can not only be unattractive, but can also age you massively. Regular trips to the dentist and spending money on keeping your teeth looking their best should be seen as an investment. BlanX® range of teeth whitening toothpastes are non-abrasive so they restore teeth to their natural whiteness without damaging the enamel.”

TOP TEN FAKEST CELEBRITY SMILES:
1. Gordon Brown (25%)
2. Victoria Beckham (17%)
3. Tony Blair (14%)
4. Katie Price (11%)
5. Paris Hilton (9%)
6. Simon Cowell (8%)
7. Amanda Holden (6%)
8. Britney Spears (5%)
9. Piers Morgan (3%)
10. Kate Walsh (Apprentice) (2%)

Introducing BlanX® Anti-Ageing toothpaste

According to a recent Oral Hygiene Report by Mintel*, discoloured teeth are said to age someone as much as wrinkles. Teeth become porous as people age, so the older teeth are, the more stain-absorbent they become. Teeth also become more brittle, gums recede and bad breath can be an issue!

When it comes to ageing, prevention is better than cure so to help fight these nasty side effects, BlanX® has developed an Anti-Ageing toothpaste.

Like the rest of the BlanX® range, the toothpaste is based on Arctic Lichen, which contains active ingredients that fight plaque and gently clean stained teeth, resulting in natural looking white teeth!

It also has a 3in1 formula specially designed to promote healthy gums, strengthen tooth enamel and freshen breath, making BlanX® Anti-Ageing the perfect solution for those wanting to avoid the ageing process!

Teeth are made stronger by fluoride ions, ageing gums are regenerated by Vitamin E and its anti-oxidant properties and the fresh mint aroma helps to prevent bad breath, providing long lasting freshness all day.

RRP: £6.99
